Yes, it’s that time of year again where all the family get together to celebrate the special women that are our mothers/grandmothers/stepmothers etc.
But choosing where to celebrate it can cause issues.
Do you go to the same place you go every year to eat the same food?
Or do you go elsewhere and take a risk on it not being up to your usual standard?
Look no further than this list of the 8 best restaurants to take your Mum this Mother’s Day, she won’t be disappointed.
- Gigis – For the Italian loving family.
This family run restaurant is perfect for the Italian lovers out there. Gigis is inspired by authentic Italian foods and flavours and is the art of sophistication in Sheffield city centre whilst not breaking the bank.
The kitchen is open, meaning you can witness the chefs cooking meals in real time – something to entertain the kids perhaps?
They also sell Sunday roasts! So if you have that one fussy family member who wants a cooked roast but you fancy pizza then this could be the perfect option.
Open from 11.30am – 10pm on Sunday you can go celebrate via lunch or dinner. And you can book a table online! Don’t miss out! – http://gigiscucina.co.uk/
- Kommune – For the fussy family that can never agree on food,
If everyone in your family likes to eat different things and you are forever arguing about where to eat – your prayers have been answered. This brand-new food hall has only been open a matter of days but is already making a stir in the Sheffield food scene.
You simply grab a table, and everyone orders what they want from different kiosks; ranging from vegan delicacy to big dirty burgers and everything in between including a rotisserie, a homemade pizza trader, an Indian and even a Mediterranean trader!
There really is everything you could ever want – even a bookshop! So you can treat your Mum to a new book while you’re there.
Open from 9am – 9pm on Sunday you could even go for an early breakfast or brunch!
- The Castle Inn – For the family that love proper pub food.
We all love proper pub grub whether it be a mixed grill, steak, pie or joint of lamb. And the Castle Inn offers the best of the best. They also do a set Sunday menu of 3 courses for just £20!
The Castle Inn is in Bradway, so if you don’t want to be subject to the hustle and bustle of the city centre this one is for you. They are even dog friendly! So, if you don’t want your furry friend to miss out on
the celebrations – they don’t have to – you can bring them along. This makes it perfect for the dog lovers of you.
The best around for cheap and cheerful. But I would definitely recommend booking as it will get busy – especially on an occasion!

S17 may only be open to 3pm but it’s worth going early. Once again located in Bradway, it’s out the way of the busy city centre.
They provide the best of locally sourced food, all homemade. And they pride themselves on their great coffee – why not take the coffee lover Mum to try it out and treat her to brunch at the same time?!

This beautifully set out gastro pub in the peaks will always be worth a visit. They have a set Sunday menu that not only includes your traditional roast but also dough balls, calamari, pasta bake and fish pie.
The Tickled Trout may be slightly out the way for some of you but if you want to escape to somewhere a bit more rural then this is your place. Why not take a step out to the Peaks before or after dinner?
